Fibromyalgia – How to Simplify Cooking Challenges with fibro.

Cooking with fibro is not easy. I have had many challenges. Cognitive issues. I keep forgetting steps when I make a meal. I have difficulty standing for too long. I have difficulty pealing vegetables. I have difficulty holding pots, pans, and so much more.

I try to make it as easy as I can. Sitting down and peeling produce is much easier. I add 30 minutes for preparation time, knowing I will need it as my wrists and forearms start to hurt halfway in. I know to take 5 minutes of rest time for my hands and arms to rest between each session.

It took me a long time to figure out how to simplify my life. I have had many trials and errors along the way. I make meals and wash the dishes using a chair to minimize my chances of flaring.

If you miss steps while cooking, it could be wise to try a step-by-step guide. Have it laminated, and keep a marker to tick down the steps.

If you need to reach for items, try to keep them at a reachable level. You will not need to stretch to reach it or risk falling by getting on a stepping stool.

The meals I make are in a file. My list consists of 10-minute meals, 20-minute meals, and 30-minute meals. I utilize vegetation and frozen foods. I try to make healthy meals, but it is not always easy. I keep a list of recipes.

Cooking isn’t something I like to do. It has become routine now but with a twist (simplifying the process). I have not turned back since. I love it the way it is now, as I am not as stressed about meals as I once was.

I used to praise myself after every meal I prepared. Making meals for myself is hard. I am limited in what I am allowed to eat and what I am not allowed to consume due to different illnesses and allergies.

I avoid meals that can cause inflammation and meals that could irritate my bowels even more. Due to my illnesses, I had to change my diet drastically to feel better even the slightest.
